Individual College and Career Coaching

writingNo idea what you are going to do “when you grow up” and no idea how to get there? CollegeMatters’ College and Career Coaches will guide you every step of the way. CollegeMatters’ coaching/advising helps students regardless of age to simplify the application and financial aid processes, access critical scholarship dollars and minimize loans and long-term debt. The process begins with completion of a Career Interest and Skills Assessment that helps align the students with a list of potential careers that fit his/her interests, skills, academic ability and have long-term financial security. The Coach then creates a PLAN with each student that outlines both short and long-term goals and the steps to take along the way to get there. The Coach/Advisor meets with the student and his/her family to discuss college and universities of interest and offer suggested institutions based on over a decade of experience in higher education. CollegeMatters Coaches aid students with completion of applications for admission, writing application, scholarship essays, completion of financial aid forms, scholarship search and acquisition provides advice and advocacy regarding crucial financial and admissions decisions and helps families navigate the hundreds of forms required to begin the journey of college success.

Individualized College Admissions and Financial Aid Coaching

Students will be paired with a Coach from CollegeMatters’ staff who will provide personalized admissions and financial aid advice. ALL Success college admissions coaching offers low-income and middle class students the type of professional advisory services that affluent students already have.

young-studentCollege Matters’ coaching helps students demystify the application and financial aid processes. Our Coaches are able to offer guidance based on our organization’s 14 years of working with high-achieving low-income students and reading hundreds of college applications each year. We have a strong understanding of what college admissions officers look for in choosing their future students. On this basis, we are able to advise students on how best to highlight their academic achievements, and how to present their socio-economic status in the best possible light and even turn it to their advantage.

Coaching Services

Coaching may include any or all of the following:

  • co-ed-campusGuidance in how to select the right colleges to apply to
  • Suggestions on which standardized tests to take
  • Advice on completing every part of the admissions application, including how to approach extracurricular activities, short answers, and essays, as well as how to balance the different elements for a strong overall application
  • Review of application essays to offer insights and suggestions for improvement
  • Answers to general and specific financial aid questions

Award Specifics

Award recipients will:

  • receive eight hours of personalized college counseling from a designated member of CollegeMatters’ professional staff.
  • be advised throughout the college admissions process via personal phone calls and e-mail.

Test Preparation

Standardized testing is a crucial element in admissions. Investing in test preparation can improve your chances of getting into the school of your choice and can even increase your likelihood of winning scholarships, saving hundreds or even thousands of dollars in tuition.
College Matters provides one-on-one, in-home preparation for:

  • ACT
  • ACT Writing
  • PSAT
  • Other standardized tests
